The Turing Way Fireside Chat Series: Governance
A joint event by The Turing Way and Software Sustainability Institute
We're thrilled to relaunch our Fireside Chat series in 2025, partnering with the Software Sustainability Institute! From June through November, we will be exploring diverse themes of governance in research and open science. Expect insightful conversations with community leaders, researchers, and practitioners, with space for collective discussion, learning and dialogue.
We are teaming up with Oscar Seip, the Software Sustainability Institute's Research Software Community Officer, to engage the SSI Fellows network with The Turing Way. Malvika Sharan, Arielle Bennett, and Oscar are working together to deliver this event series for our joint communities.
Title: Get to Know The Turing Way Steering Committee - 19 June.
The Fireside Chat will be launched with this session at the Community Forum, featuring our Steering Committee members who will be discussing their vision for governance in The Turing Way.
Title: Why does governance matter in research and open science projects? - 26 June.
This session will feature speakers from SSI leadership and Fellows.
Title: Learning from Each Other's Journeys: Case studies from communities - 31 July 2025
This session will feature speakers from communities like The Carpentries, rLadies, OLS and Jupyter.
Title: Exploring Distributed, Collaborative and Decentralised Governance Models - 28 August
This session will feature speakers from The Climate Sensitive Infectious Disease Network (CSID Network), Open Research Community Accelerator (ORCA) and The Engine Room.

This session will feature speakers from CURIOSS, CHAOSS and Open Source Research.
Title: Good Governance Practices for the Long-Term Health of Open Initiatives - 30 October
This session will feature speakers from Organizational Mycology and MetaDocencia.
